Efstathios T. Detorakis
Efstathios strongly believes that clinical trials are an important step on the path to delivering safe, effective and globally accessible treatment. His main clinical interests are Oculoplastics, Ocular Oncology and Glaucoma.
He received his Medical Degree from the Medical School of the University of Athens in 1991 with the grade “Excellent” and completed residency training in Ophthalmology at the Department of Ophthalmology of the University Hospital of Heraklion, Crete and a PhD thesis at the University of Crete. He subsequently completed scholarship-supported clinical fellowships in Oculoplastic Surgery in the UK (2000-2001) and Ocular Oncology at the Jules Stein Eye Institute of UCLA, under Prof. Bradley R. Straatsma, in Los Angeles, USA (2001-2002).
Upon returning to Greece, Efstathios was appointed Clinical Lecturer in Ophthalmology at the University Hospital of Alexandroupolis of Democritus University of Thrace (2002-2006), Consultant in Ophthalmology at the Department of Ophthalmology of the University Hospital of Heraklion (2006-2013), Assistant Professor in Ophthalmology at the University of Crete (2010) and Associate Professor in Ophthalmology, at the same University (2018).

Work Highlights:
Efstathios has more than 110 peer-reviewed publications with over 1200 citations, and several presentations in National and International medical meetings. Additionally, Efstathios has received funding for six research projects in Greece and abroad (USA) and has taught both pre-graduate and post-graduate students as a faculty member in two Medical Schools (Democritus University of Thrace and University of Crete) for several years (2002-present day).
